Vacation Time!

We have returned from our fabulous vacation in Colorado! We drove out with Andy's parents, spent a couple of days in Denver, and then a few days in Breckenridge and driving around to see some of the sights. As anyone who's seen the Rockies knows, they are breathtaking, and photos don't do justice...still, here are a few shots of our time there, to give you an idea:

Jessica & Sarah outside the Denver Center for Performing Arts. We went to see Floorplay (we highly recommend it!) and reminisced about our ballroom dancing days...

Andy and Jess outside the house where Jess grew up. It is now painted green, not the blue it had been when we lived there--and the little blue spruce that was barely taller than me when we moved (when I was 12) now dwarfs the whole house.

Here Andy, Marilyn, and Jess are outside our B&B--it is the best B&B in the world, we are convinced: The Fireside Inn. (Seriously, if you are ever in Breckenridge, stay here!)

Jess, enjoying the view from the SuperChair as we descended Peak 8 in Breckenridge.

Steve & Marilyn pose atop the Sapphire Point overlook, which overlooks the Dillon Reservoir and the city of Frisco, just a few miles from Breckenridge.

Our second day, we decided to drive to see some of the more famous sites in Colorado. Here are Andy & Jess atop Mount Evans, one of the 14000+ foot mountains of Colorado--its a less popular tourist destination than Pikes Peak, but is a little taller and with a view just as breathtaking.

We spent a morning at Garden of the Gods, above & below, marvelling at the amazing red rock formations.

Our last stop was the Royal Gorge. Steve, Andy, and Jess rode this incline tram down to the bottom, while Marilyn opted for the less harrowing experience of viewing it from the top. It rained the whole time we were there, which made for less spectacular pictures, but just as grand an in-person experience (especially listening to the storm from down in the gorge!).

  • Jess,

Great photos! Colorado sure has a lot to offer for vacationing. I miss having all those great scenic areas within a few hours drive of our home.

It's also neat to see the old house again. That "little" Colorado blue spruce sure grew up. Actually, it's a classic example of poor landscape design (not mine). A dwarf conifer (or other dwarf tree) would have been the appropriate selection for that site.

  • Andy and Jess - these pictures are incredible! We can't wait to hear more about your great trip. I am sitting here finishing a final exam for one of my summer classes and really wishing I could be in CO instead right now! :) Hope you are both well!

  • I remember when Dad and I painted that house blue - with white trim and maroon touches on the porch. Man, it looked sharp! And Dad nearly fell off the ladder 2 1/2 stories up. Sigh! Those were the good old days! I sure liked that house better when it was blue. And the tree was smaller.
Thanks, sweetie, for a blast from the past!
    Love,
    Mom

  • Great pictures! Like everyone else, I thought it was especially cool to see our house again. That tree is so big now!
