Headache Woes
We had a lovely Halloween, and a very stressful month since, which is why I have yet to post any Halloween photos.
In academic news, I wrote and turned in a (very rough) draft of my dissertation to my advisor! Yay! And I have a date set for the dissertation defense: March 5th. Between now and then there will be lots and lots of finishing and revising to do...but for the moment I've decided to take a break from it and not even look at it again until I hear back from my advisor with her thoughts on the draft. Why spend time fixing it up if she's going to tell me to scrap a whole section, right?
In the meantime I am more than busy enough keeping up with my two classes this semester and now thinking about two classes next semester. I was for a brief time pleasantly caught up...that would have lasted, given the break-from-dissertation, if it weren't for some very pesky migraines I've been dealing with lately. They have ramped up in frequency, intensity, and duration this fall. It just doesn't seem fair. I was coping okay when I used to get them once every month or two. Now I have had three in a month and a half. And they used to last 3-4 days. These past three have lasted 7 days, 14 days, and--well, I'm currently in day 3 of this one. So just when I think I have a shot at getting or being caught up with work, along comes a migraine to wipe out several days of work time and make several more days much less productive than they should be.
Do the fates think I didn't have enough to juggle with two young kids, teaching two classes a long commute away, and trying to write a dissertation, or what?! And, well, it would be just lovely if I actually got to see my husband more than in passing and as we fall asleep!
Ah. Okay, done complaining. Back to work.

Here's hoping the Migraine Monster gets out from under your bed and leaves you alone - soon! Have you tried pouring cold water on it so it dissolves into a puddle? Worked for Dorothy.
Love,
Mom
