Rainy Day

It's a rainy day in Northfield today--a good day to do a catch-up blog post, I think. We are all doing well. Summer is certainly flying by; just the other day it dawned on me that it's the END of July already...meaning we'll be moving three weeks from now. Eeek! We haven't even begun to think about packing up and moving yet.

Andy is helping with a conference on campus this week, and working at a local church otherwise, to finish up his internship. Jess is working on a research project this summer (same one she has been working on for the past year), and is getting ready to teach again this fall. But really nearly all of my time is spent with Simon, which is both wonderful and tedious at the same time (I'm sure all you parents and caretakers out there can relate).

Simon is a very steady sitter now, daring to reach pretty far in all directions to get to objects he wants to play with. He is making all sorts of cute new sounds--some syllables (ba, mo, mu, mmmm, duh, guh...), and some just indescribable noises he somehow makes with his mouth and vocal cords, that are impossible to transliterate. He also enjoys blowing spit bubbles, sticking out his tongue, and otherwise playing with his mouth :).

The biggest recent change for him is social. Over the past couple of weeks he has started to show some stranger anxiety. He has become quite adept at signaling to Mom that he wants to be picked up (now, please!), and uses this frequently...which means my arms and back are getting a good workout. He is also sleeping better, thankfully. He still wakes up about twice a night--once around 2:00 am, when he'll fall asleep pretty quickly after we go in and remind him that its time to sleep, and again around 4:00 am when I feed him. That means he's pretty consistently sleeping an eight-hour stretch (big improvement)--unfortunately it doesn't really coincide with when WE are wanting to be asleep, as it is from about 6 pm to 2 am. Still, we're happy with the progress, and hope that 2 am waking disappears soon.

  • What a wet, soggy sweetie that Simon is! Can't wait to see him next weekend. Love the "talking"!

  • We like the violin music in the background! Zoe, too, has been listening to a lot of classical music, courtesy of MPR :)
